Julia’s House – Great Wall of China Trek

In just four weeks time, our (slightly crazy) Founder and Director Simon will be embarking on a challenge of a lifetime along one of the most spectacular wonders of the world – the Great Wall of China. Undertaking the journey with one of his good friends Ben, they both have their reasons for participating, but the one that towers above the rest is for them to raise some SERIOUS money for an incredible charity – Julia’s House.

No parent expects to live longer than their child, but for many of the families we support, this is a reality.

Julia’s House work lovingly and tirelessly to provide practical and emotional support for families caring for a child with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, providing frequent and regular support in their own homes, the community or in one of the purpose built hospices.

Simon has commented, “With the recent birth of my boys, I just can’t imagine what some families go through when their children have life threatening conditions. We spent just 8 days in the intensive care children’s ward in Hospital and I found that incredibly hard. It made me look around and realise what people are going through every single day. Julia’s House support these families and children, and that is just incredible. Now I want to do everything I can to support them.”

The twins are now nearing 1 and are fit and healthy, up to more and more mischief every day. (I can assure you – the stories are great.) Sadly, this is a stage that some children are unable to reach, but with the help and care that charities such as Julia’s House provide, their days can be made that little bit easier and more enjoyable.

Braving 5 long days on their feet, the guys will have their work cut out, trekking over the tough undulating hills and up the steep stone steps of the Great Wall. The mission is for Simon and his group of fellow trekkers to raise a huge £50,000 for Julia’s House to support their work and research. This amount would support an entire summer of play sessions at the Hospice, providing fun and friendship for up to 30 children each week throughout the school holidays. What an incredible achievement that would be?!

This week, Seventa Events will be proudly matching ALL donations made in support of the trek. Every little really does help and we are all behind Simon and his fundraising target. We’ve seen Simon’s training that is underway and we can certainly vouch for his efforts and commitment to the cause!

Stay tuned to see how Simon and Ben get on with their trek and in the meantime, if you feel that you are able to, please do donate by clicking here, it would mean the world to the guys to have your support 🙂

But for now, best of luck Simon & Ben, we can’t wait to hear all about it – hopefully those early morning sessions have paid off!!
