Contactless Payment Technologies

Last night hundreds of Professor Green fans flocked to see the London born rapper make his 2013 live debut to celebrate Barclaycard Contactless being available on TFL buses across London.

Barclaycard promoted its contactless payment technologies use on London buses with an exclusive gig by Professor Green on Saturday (23 March).

The event was held in a former King’s Cross goods depot transformed into a London bus station complete with vintage Routemasters.

Tickets for the event were distributed through Facebook and website competitions by Mission PR, which organised the concert. The London-born rapper was supported by newcomer Ady Suleiman.

Transport for London (TfL) introduced contactless payment to 8,500 buses in December. The system uses near field communication (NFC) to interact with existing Oyster readers.

Nick Clements, managing director for Barclaycard’s UK consumer cards said it wanted to bring payments innovation to its customers. “We want to make our customers lives easier and with buses all across the Capital now accepting contactless payments, we believe it’s a quicker and more convenient choice than paying with cash.”

The concert from the MOBO and NME award winner was the culmination of Barclaycard events to promote the availability of contactless payment technology on buses.

Barclaycard launched contactless technology in the UK in 2007. Retailers using the system include Waitrose, M&S, McDonald’s and Tesco.

Contactless payment technology is one to seriously look out for in the event world over the coming years. We have some great ideas here at Seventa Events & Hospitality of how to utilise this technology in future events and we look forward to what the future brings with NFC.
