In the winter of 2017/‘18 Seventa Events were invited back to a truly unique venue. This time, ‘Skylight’ was to become London’s very own rooftop après-skate lodge.
We first helped with the transformation of a disused carpark into a rooftop lawn club, complete with croquet lawns, in summer 2017. The original urban concept had proved a huge success but Tobacco Dock and Interact Branding wanted to keep people coming back. It was decided that the space needed a seasonal makeover.
How we helped
We loved working on the first Skylight project and were delighted to be asked back. Our team already had a great relationship with Tobacco Dock and Interact Branding, so it was great to be working with them again.
The first step was to decide what would best create the desired ‘après-skate’ atmosphere, then work out how to make it happen. As with the first project, this sounds simple enough until you remember that this particularly unusual venue is on a rooftop!
It was decided that Skylight would feature an ice rink, pop up bar and plenty of seating in an indoor, heated space: it was winter after all! This was quite different to the garden party concept of the hazy summer just passed and we were excited to get started.
We began by reorganising the venue to make the most of the space. An ice rink and ice hockey penalty shoot-out game were added, making the most of that amazing view of the London skyline. Some outdoor tables and seating were nestled next to full size, real fir trees which really added to the Alpine ambience.
Then, for the all-important après-skate drinks, a new custom 8m bar with feature neon lighting was created (and proved very popular!). This bar was perfectly complemented by a custom DJ booth and neon lighting feature. We also extended the mezzanine and put up a heated marquee, with plenty more custom built furniture for indoor socialising once visitors had retired from the ice rink.
The whole venue had a magical winter makeover with plenty of wooden features, cosy seating, sheepskin throws, blankets and fairy lights. Skylight was completely transformed from its summer incarnation!
This exciting, ambitious project was completed in just under three weeks, with a fantastic end result. It was a busy but highly productive three weeks, with a full team of chippies, electricians and steel fabricators on site to ensure everything stayed on track.
The clients were extremely happy with the transformation and we were very proud of what was achieved.
The summer version of Skylight had been a huge success and was a tough act to follow. However, the winter après-skate bar proved equally popular with visitors. In fact, the unique venue was even featured in Business Insider, Secret London and Timeout Magazine.
Plans for the future
We’ve really enjoyed being an integral part of the first two chapters of Skylight’s story: the summer lawn club and winter après-skate bar. Both versions of the venue have been so well received, we’re looking forward to what the future might bring.
In fact, we’ve already got plans in place with Tobacco Dock and Interact Branding for future projects at Skylight. We’re discussing a range of exciting concepts and ideas to keep this unique, adaptable rooftop venue engaging and surprising for visitors long into the future.
