The Great British Beach Clean – Seventa Events X Marine Conservation Society

At Seventa Events, we count ourselves extremely lucky to have offices located in the coastal town of Bournemouth. The daily commute for a selection of our staff consists of a (sometimes) sunny cycle along one the most stunning beaches that the UK has to offer!

As an events company, we have also organised an abundance of beach based events and as a result, we feel particularly strongly about protecting this environment. We therefore decided as a team that we need to step up and the results of this were for us to get involved in this years Great British Beach Clean, running from 20th-22nd September.

The annual Great British Beach Clean, organised by the Marine Conservation Society, has been leading the way in tackling ocean pollution for 25 years, helping make some of the most significant impacts on beach litter ever – the plastic bag charge, banning microplastics in personal care products, better wet wipe labelling, and supporting a tax on single-use plastic items. With 14,000 people participating last year, the results were significant.

On Friday morning, 7 members of our team (plus a family member here and there – thanks for joining us Mum!) headed down to Sandbanks Beach Office to help tackle the litter. Armed with our littler pickers and gloves, what looked like a particularly clean stretch of beach was in fact, on closer inspection, really very dirty! Cigarette butts lead the way, with an abundance of other small plastics; bottles and wrappers, following close behind. To say we were shocked by the multiple bags of litter collected over such a short space of time is an understatement.

We will certainty be looking to participate in more beach clean events and would strongly encourage other local businesses to do the same. The event was super easy to sign up to and our team thoroughly enjoyed their morning out on our beaches, even if we did return top the office a little windswept!

We look forward to seeing you at the next one!
